Rider's Meeting

15 minutes before the start of every race, a mandatory rider's meeting is held in the starting area.

Rider's meeting at the start line

The Referee will present information about the current track conditions and important administrative and safety information. Registered racers are responsible to be fully geared up, lined up in the appropriate starting row, on time, with your bikes shut off, and ready for the Rider's Meeting. Riders who miss the Rider's Meeting will not be allowed to race.

Peewee Racers Rider's Meeting: What to Expect

The race Referee will provide a briefing on track conditions, course mileage, and any significant obstacles. Both riders and parents please listen carefully to the following rules before all the fun begins.

Insurance and Responsibility

Rider insurance is not provided by Stoney Lonesome or the AMA. If you're not comfortable racing without rider insurance, you can get a refund now, before the green flag drops. Once the race starts, refunds are no longer available. By entering this race, you are accepting full responsibility for yourself, your machine, and your riding ability.

AMA Safety Rules

Per the AMA competition rulebook, no helmet mounted cameras are allowed! This is an AMA safety rule and it's strictly enforced. If you are observed with one during the race, you may be disqualified. Chest and back protection is mandatory for all youth racers per the AMA rulebook. Please take a moment now to check yourself and the riders around you to verify no helmet mounted cameras, and that chest/back protection is on. An ambulance is on location up by the scoring shack if ever needed during the event.

Riders Conduct and Safety

Any competitor who rides in a way that endangers officials, other riders, or the public can be immediately disqualified by the referee. This includes reckless riding, damaging Stoney Lonesome property, and altering the course. Each rider is responsible for the actions of their family/pit crew, and any detrimental action from them can result in the rider being disqualified or fined by the AMA.

Slower riders always need to give way to the faster rider when it's safe to do so: keep racing, but pull over to the side when you can for faster riders to pass. Faster riders, please be patient with the slower riders. Hold your line, avoid contact, and don't force passes. Only pass when it's safe! Be courteous, say thank you.

Any rider that fails to follow the above rules, uses foul language directed at another rider or physically places his hands on another rider in an unfair manner and causes the other rider to lose control may be subject to the docking of a lap and or disqualification. A clean race is a fast race; let's all have fun out there and enjoy riding your motorcycles!

Course Boundaries

All riders must remain within the bannered/marked course. A rider leaving the course can only continue in the event by returning to the point where he/she left the course without gaining any advantage. A rider who has cut the course will be disqualified. The marked course is to stay between the tape following the orange arrows. If you get turned around on course, please do not ride in the opposite track direction; someone can help turn you around and get you going again.

Scoring

Absolutely no passing in the scoring lane! If you are asked to stop at the scoring shack, you must stop, no exception! You'll get a verbal warning the first time if you don't stop when told by scoring personnel. You'll be "docked a lap" if ignoring a second time being asked. This is required to make sure you get manually scored as a backup during adverse conditions, during heavy rider congestion at scoring, or when electronic timing issues have occurred.

Outside Assistance

Parents that can help keep the kids going/upright during the Pee Wee event, not just their own kid, it's greatly appreciated! The objective is to help all the kids complete the course safely and gain confidence while improving their riding skills. Parents who help, we just ask that you pay attention to oncoming riders and do not block the course or impede the race in any way. Please move over to the side when helping.

Race Lengths and Arrow Colors

Races are run to the closest lap to the total race time. Pee Wee Classes are a 30 minute race. Everyone follows the orange arrows and stays between the course banners. There will be a 20 second gap between each row.

Start Procedure

A 2-minute, 1-minute, and 30 second time update will be given. The starter will verbally yell "10 Seconds" to go while the green start flag is resting on his foot and will quickly raise and wave it at the start. Anyone that starts in the 10 seconds before the green flag is raised will result in a "20 second" time penalty, no exceptions!

Parents at the start

On the start line, you will be able to help balance your kid if necessary, holding the rear fender only. However, the rear wheel must stay on the ground and not be lifted at all. You may not push the rider off when the green flag is raised! The rider will be immediately disqualified if you do this, no exception.

Awards Presentation

Peewee race awards presentation will be at approximately 10:15, right after the minis start. If you have any questions, please see an official before starting. Remember, ride smart, ride safe, and have a great race!

Mini and Big Bike Racers Rider's Meeting: What to Expect

The race Referee will provide a briefing on track conditions, course mileage, and any significant obstacles. Riders are expected to listen carefully, understand track conditions and the following rules.

Insurance, AMA safety rules, conduct and safety

The insurance reminder, the helmet camera ban, mandatory chest and back protection for youth racers, the ambulance location, and the riders conduct rules are the same as for the Peewee meeting above.

Course Boundaries

Course boundaries are strictly enforced. You may not ride more than twenty feet outside the arrows at any time. If two arrows are positioned on each side of the route, you must stay between them, and within the bannered course boundaries at all times. If you leave the course, expect penalties or possible disqualification. You must re-enter the course at the closest spot where you left without gaining any advantage.

Woods Checks and Scoring

Please slow down when going through all woods checks for back up scoring. Absolutely no passing in the scoring lane! If you are asked to stop at the scoring shack, you must stop, no exception! You'll get a verbal warning the first time if you don't stop when asked by scoring personnel. You'll be "docked a lap" if you don't stop when asked the second time! This is required to make sure you get scored manually during adverse conditions, heavy rider congestion at scoring, or when electronic timing issues have occurred.

Course Marshals & Injuries

We have multiple course marshals stationed throughout the course. If you see an injured rider, stop and notify the nearest course marshal and let them know where the injured rider is located so help can get there quickly. Please stop and stay with the rider if you believe he is critically injured. This is everyone's responsibility.

Race Lengths and Arrow Colors

Races are run to the closest lap to the total race time.

  • Mini Classes: 1-hour race. Follow the red arrows only, 1 minute gap between each row.
  • Big Bike Classes: 2-hour race. Follow the blue arrows only, 1 minute gap between each row.

Sections of Mini and big bike courses overlap and will have both red and blue arrows in those sections. Please follow the course arrows for your class, not just the rider in front of you who may not be paying attention to the arrows and ends up leading you off course.

Start Procedure and Flags

  1. A 2-minute and 1-minute to go update will be given.
  2. The starter will wave the red flag to shut off bikes at 30 seconds before the start.
  3. The starter will yell "10 seconds" to go with the green start flag resting on his foot and will quickly raise and wave it at the start.

If you jump or start your bike before the green flag is raised during the final 10 seconds, you'll incur a "1 minute penalty," no exceptions, so don't start your bike or leave before the green flag is raised!

Final Lap and Sweep

On your final lap, if the sweep rider catches you, you must maintain the pace of your class. If you're unable to keep pace, you may be asked not to complete the lap. Always follow the sweep rider's instructions. If you have any questions, please see an official before starting. Remember, ride smart, ride safe, and have a great race!
